The same thing goes with cigars. There is no point in accumulating a knowledge and collection of exotic cigars only to let them rot, crumble, and fall apart. With proper storage techniques, a cigar can mellow out as it ages. It will burn evenly and develop a smooth taste.
One of the first steps you need to take in order to preserve your cigars is to find yourself a quality humidor. Humidors come in all shapes and sizes. It is up to you to decide what type is the best fit for your collection.
When shopping for humidors, it can never hurt to get something twice as big as you anticipate needing. It is like buying a house and seeing how much storage space you will have. The house might have enough for everything you have at that very moment, but you have to remember that you will be accumulating more over the years.
It is all right to start small. If you are just getting into the world of cigars, then there is no need to run out there and purchase the biggest, fanciest humidor money can buy. If you know someone who is a cigar newbie, you might consider buying them something like the Orleans Humidor Gift Set to get them off and running.
